Caring for Your Temporary
While your temporary restoration is in place:
- Avoid sticky and hard foods (including gum) — they can pull the temporary off
- Minimize chewing on that side when possible
- When flossing, slide the floss out from the side rather than lifting up, which could dislodge the temporary
If your temporary comes loose, call us immediately — it should be re-cemented quickly to prevent sensitivity and tooth movement.
Managing Sensitivity
Sensitivity to temperature and chewing pressure is expected after your appointment and will gradually improve. Over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen can address discomfort.
If you notice a sharp or persistent ache, contact us — it may indicate the bite needs minor adjustment.
Numbness Precautions
Your mouth, lips, cheeks, and tongue may feel numb for several hours. Wait until the anesthetic wears off completely before eating to avoid accidentally biting yourself.
